4 reasons you should have a fear of missing out on blogging.

Why not blogging is kinda like not brushing your teeth.

As a kid, I was usually rewarded with a bedtime story, but only if I brushed my teeth for more than 30 seconds. It was the “carrot” my parents used to help build this good habit and it has rewarded me and my siblings with clean, shining teeth to this very day. It worked like a charm.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I don’t recall my parents making me blog before bedtime. If they had, it would have reinforced a habit that could have seriously helped me market and grow my business as an adult. Of course, back then, blogging didn’t exist so I have no right to point fingers.

So, why is blogging a good thing?

Businesses who develop a good blogging habit are actively supporting a balanced content marketing strategy. Content marketing is one of the crowning components and the best way to get your ideas out to customers. Companies that blog consistently reap the rewards in fairytale proportions!

In short, it’s really hard to argue with great results. Any business who isn’t taking advantage of the blog on their website is missing out.

Why is blogging often not-a-thing?

Unfortunately, even for those of us who are reasonably good writers, it’s easy to procrastinate pumping out the prose. But putting off the frightening task of writing only feels good for a moment. Too soon, the high we get from blog-avoidance fades, and we are left knowing that a golden opportunity to connect with customers has slipped away, once again.

At the old Chroma Sites, I confess we had our fair share of blog procrastination. But lately, because we have a very specialized set of skills that we want our customers to know about, we’ve gotten much better at pushing out content more consistently. Now, we proudly power through the blogger’s-block, and get the job done!

Blogging, and the subsequent promotion of that content, is easily one of the most relevant, budget-friendly, and up-to-date forms of marketing we do for ourselves.

1. Blogs can be about anything (at first)

You don’t need to write about anything in particular. Jump right in with a current event or seasonal theme. Stay relevant but quickly connect your thoughts to your business. Attracting the people who may actually become customers means constantly staying on topic and making connections that ring true.

2. Blogging will (eventually) have a big impact on your SEO

In an industry full of instant-gratification and social media overload, many businesses forget that the majority of their customers are on Google all day long. Finding ways to sneak into someone’s organic search results is the best way to stand out and get noticed. Gently fill your content with the same key terms they just put into their search query. The magic connection (click) will happen. And once they are on your blog, your business will appear more legitimate to those who are ready-to-buy.

3. You can differentiate your business in detail with a blog

The most important thing your website can do is differentiate your business from all the others out there. You can do that to a certain extent through your web pages (especially if you hire us), but blogging about what you do and more specifically, how you do it, brings your brand to a whole new level. People who are interested in what you have to offer will be more than happy to consume whatever you put out. They will be eager to learn more about what you do and how they can benefit from it.

Over time, all that relevant content you have out there will make it easy to be found by customers you like. And customers who will appreciate and respect you.

4. Promote your blog from crowded places.

When it comes to getting your content out in front of people, there’s no wrong way to do it. Publishing to social media, emailing to your friends and colleagues, even linking to them from other parts of your website are all incredibly effective ways to draw eyes. Your blog gives you a central location to publish your content and share it around the world.
